Staff Profile

Annie began tenor drumming over a decade ago with the Northwest MacGregor Pipe Band from Washington State.

In the fall of 2000, Annie joined the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band organization as a member of Robert Malcolm Memorial Juvenile, and had the privilege to advance under the instruction of drummers such as Reid Maxwell, Andre Tessier, Simone Reid, and Kathryn Savage. Following a 2001 Juvenile World Championship and drumming title, Annie was promoted to Robert Malcolm Memorial grade 2 and was able to travel internationally with the band, record in the studio/live, and compete professionally across North America.

Annie completed the objective of playing in grade 1 by joining the Prince Charles Pipe Band (San Francisco) in early 2005. Playing under the tutelage of Liza and David McAdam was an extremely valuable learning experience; Adapting to flourishing so stylistically advanced was difficult initially, but was ultimately the most effective way to become a more versatile and skilled drummer.

2007 presented a chance to lead the tenor section of the Dowco Triumph Street Pipe Band based in Vancouver, BC. Becoming part of a leadership team with L/D Andre Tessier was a career highlight for Annie; DTSPB presented many opportunities that developed leadership and instructional capabilities while building a corps from the ground up. Following Triumph Street, Annie spent a short time with Strathclyde Police Pipe Band (Glasgow), and she now plays as an active instructor with the Prince Charles Pipe Band organization.

In addition to grade 1 band experience, Annie is a very successful soloist internationally. Having been on the professional solo platform from the age of 18, she currently competes across the globe, and has consecutively won the British Columbian Indoor in both the grade 1 and professional classes. Annie also holds a Bronze Medal from the 2009 Midwest Highland Arts Fund Gold Medal Tenor Drumming Championships.

As an instructor, Annie is energetic and open, and strives for highly interactive workshops. Many of her students have gone on to do well competitively, capturing prizes at all levels in international fields. Having had excellent instruction from the start, Annie feels there is nothing of greater importance and highly values the opportunity to teach.
